Abstract:In 2022, Beijing’s urban regeneration process enters the fast lane. The practices in Beijing CBD set a pattern for many other city commercial districts. This article analyses experiences and problems of most types of Beijing CBD urban regeneration conducts since the launch of Beijing’s urban regeneration program, including offices, residential buildings, factories, and subway station-driven projects. By comparing domestic and international cases, it puts forward practical strategies and political recommendations. The article proposes that the regeneration of business districts requires planning, policymaking, and implementation simultaneously for a broader area, providing diversified residential products to improve jobs-and-housing balance, and increasing cultural amenities that revitalize the city and transform the central business district into the central activity zone.
