MiYiSuo 166: Hitching Posts with Masks of Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts, Xi'an, China
YUE Yang

FORM
Located in Xi'an,
the ancient capital of thethirteen dynasties,
it was possible to collect a lot ofhitching posts.
The hitching post is divided into
pile head, pile neck, pile body and pile root.
The pile heads are often meticulously carved to give meaning.
The lions on the pile heads were put on masks,
expressing people's reaction to the environment.
It also embodies the unique drama.

SPACE
In the campus environment,
hitching posts can be seen everywhere.
However, the hitching posts on the shore of Tai Chi Lake,
are neatly arranged and the space is linear.
The place here is more like an exhibition space.
The pile heads are placed in the same orientation,
sometimes it becomes a platform
for students to expose their quilts.
When they are all wearing masks,
the atmosphere also becomes different.
All the hitching posts are tied to the pedestrians.
The pile head wears a mask on the animal face,
pedestrians are attracted to take photos.
