Improving Playability of Urban Spaces: From KaBOOM ! to Playful City USA

Abstract:This article focus on playability of urban spaces for kids proposed by KaBOOM ! , an American non-profit organization dedicated to saving play for all kids, and the initiave of Playful City USA, an national recognition program to recognize and honor the cities and towns making outstanding contribution to play. After the introduction of background, development process and operation mechanism, the article focus on the audit & post-evaluation of children’s play spaces to make urban spaces more playable with the help of KaBOOM! Playspace Finder. Finally, the enlightenment and reference significance to the construction of child-friendly cities in China were prospected.
