Abstract:For urban research and design, the combination of typological methods as the underlying logic and emerging data
support as tools will transform the traditional pure morphology’s paradigm and make more rational urban scientific
decisions. This paper summarizes the course of historical environmental protection and the internationally recognized
concept of historical environment regeneration, and discusses the mode and significance of the historical environment
activated by using three strategies of continuity-based regeneration, vitality-based regeneration and memory-based
regeneration in the teaching process, combined with the teaching of three urban design cases of the Department of
Architecture at Tianjin University.
