Abstract:In order to bridge the gap between research and design in the traditional teaching of urban and rural planning and
design courses, the teaching team of the School of Architecture in South China University of Technology (SCUT) has
developed a research-based planning and design teaching practice from the perspective of “urban-water coupling”, in
conjunction with the National Key Research and Development Program of the 13th Five-year Plan on “Optimization for
Planning and Design Technology with Water Environment System in New Urban District”. Up to now, it has completed
the teaching of two phases of urban master planning and four groups of bachelor graduation design, and has trained a
number of postgraduate and doctoral students.
