Abstract：Based on an overall review of the development of university campuses through the lens of their relationship with the
urban environment, this article proposes “openness” and its three dimensions as a theoretical framework, within which
design strategies and spatial prototypes are provided as ways of going towards a dialectical openness for university
campuses in the future.
