A Preliminary Study on the Urban Design Methods Based on the
Protection and Utilization of Historical and Cultural Heritage:
Taking the Reconstruction and Expansion of Xi’an Railway Station and Its
Surrounding Supporting Projects as an Example
Abstract：In the process of urban construction in China, many famous historical and cultural cities have undergone large-scale urban
renewal and reconstruction. Among them, there is an obvious contradiction between the reconstruction of old cities and the
protection of historical and cultural heritage. Therefore, the protection of historical and cultural heritage has become a key
issue in urban renewal. Based on the background of urban renewal in Xi’an, this paper analyzes and elaborates the relevant
methods of urban design aimed at the protection and utilization of historical and cultural heritage, in combination with the
project practice of the renewal and reconstruction of Xi’an Railway Station and its surrounding areas.
