Exploring Strategies for Harmonious Coexistence and Development
of Modern Urban Hubs and Major Heritage Sites:
Taking the Urban Design of the T5 Airport Terminal Front Integrated Business
District and Shunling Site Museum Area in Xi’an as an Example
Abstract:Xi’an has a large number and wide distribution of historical sites. In recent years, with the development and
construction of the city, many important urban nodes need to coexist with historical sites for development. The new
terminal of Xi’an Xixian Airport after expansion is only one kilometer away from the Shunling site, and the two are
connected by the integrated business district in front of the terminal in terms of spatial form, functional organization,
and other aspects. This article analyzes the issues of urban space and the corresponding design strategies of this district,
and summarizes strategies to promote the symbiotic development of modern urban hubs and major heritage sites from
the aspects such as culture, function, and urban form.
