Abstract：The urban central axis is a linear spatial element that plays the role of controlling the overall structure in the urban
axis. This paper introduces the concept and basic mode of the urban central axis, analyzes the fundamental mode of the
typical urban central axis, summarizes the elements of urban central axis design, and discusses the construction of urban
central axis in terms of the design principles, spatial sequence, functional layout, spatial form, style control, traffic
planning, node control, and landscape design of the urban central axis of the New City in northern Yan’an.
