Abstract:The digital turn will influence the development of spatial and settlement structures dominated by global market
forces and political power interests in all countries of the world. However, Germany is still a digital desert comparing
to other countries. To search for spatial implication in Germany, the paper sketches spatial changes for four spatial
categories that the rapidly advancing digitization will bring, for metropolitan city regions, for city centers in these
regions, for suburbanized regions and for gentrified rural spaces in the wider urban regions. These sketches are based
on reports from these four spatial categories, where particular transformations are to be expected due to accelerated
digitalization caused by the pandemic.
