Abstract:The construction of large-scale urban rail transit in China has laid the foundation for the transformation of urban
transport development mode. Large capacity and high-quality public transportation systems are the guarantee of
compactness and highly competitive vitality in large cities. From the perspective of international experience, urban
regeneration in large cities, revitalization and development of historical blocks, and transformation of transport modes
constitute an important issue in contemporary urban planning and design. The Wulin Road block in Hangzhou is
introduced as an example to explore the role of TOD as a catalyst for the revitalization of historical blocks in the spatial
development strategy, transport organization, public space, and landscape improvement. The aim is to achieve “lake
and city integration” and people’s immersive experience of historical blocks. Finally, the TOD planning and design
strategies and suggestions for the revitalization of historical blocks are proposed.
