Abstract：The construction of rural areas is gradually integrating with cities due to the acceleration of urbanization. The disorderly
use of contemporary building materials in rural construction has led the improper rural appearance to becoming a
concentrated criticism of the current rural problems and caused the disappearance of regional features. Based on the
construction theory, this paper first chooses some typical villages in rural areas of Xi’an as the research object. Then,
this paper analyzes the feature problems caused by the current application of building materials in these villages from
three angles: construction logic, organizational form, and cultural attributes. Finally, this paper suggests new approaches
to achieve the goal of rural appearance optimization from the perspective of the application of modern building
materials.
