Abstract：As China’s urban construction enters a period dominated by stock, urban renewal has become a crucial means to
promote urban transformation and enhance urban quality. Beijing, as the capital, has significant demonstrative
significance in exploring and practicing urban renewal. Based on the first-hand data from the consecutive three “Best
Practice Awards for Beijing Urban Renewal” activities organized from 2022 to 2024, the author has conducted an
in-depth analysis of the changes in the types and regional distribution characteristics of Beijing’s urban renewal work in
recent years, as well as the underlying reasons behind them. Meanwhile, as an evaluating expert for the event and with
long-term practice in the field of urban renewal, the author proposes suggestions for future urban renewal work from
three aspects: “improving the urban renewal policy system”, “optimizing the urban renewal work environment”, and
“strengthening the guiding and coordinating role of planning”.
