Abstract:In the evolving landscape of urban, rural, and Hinterland environments, the increasing prevalence of industrial heritage
sites - particularly those considered “ordinary” - presents both challenges and opportunities for contemporary societal
and architectural development. Often abandoned and underutilised, these sites can leave voids within their communities
and landscapes. This article focuses on the adaptive reuse of the Old Grain Station in Qinghua Town, emphasising the
importance of such sites to sustain historical, cultural, and socioeconomic narratives. By assessing heritage values and
proposing targeted architectural interventions, the design transforms existing warehouses into a Creative Cultural Hub;
advocating for a balanced approach between cultural preservation and contemporary development to dynamically reintegrate
“ordinary” industrial heritage sites into their modern environment.
