Abstract:For more than 20 years, Professor Sun Yimin has led the studio team to explore basic issues and principles of
urban design, committed to creating urban places with appropriate block scales that highlight public interests and
environmental ecological benefits. Through reviewing several urban design practices along the Pearl River, this paper
shows a cross section of urban design in PRD. Based on the geographical and climatic characteristics of the Pearl River
Delta, along the key sections of the Pearl River frontage, urban design team studied the core issues of urban cultural
and industrial heritage protection, urban regeneration, engineering and technical rationality of high-density waterfront
areas, spatial planning of the delta water network area and the regional Chief Urban Designer to enhance resilience,
and practiced the urban design and implementation of the “smart construction” theory with clear and continuous value
judgment.
