Abstract:The rapid urbanization period has led to a homogenization of cities and a loss of distinctive character, which has become
a major concern. How to fully inherit and effectively transmit the distinctive character in urban spatial development
and construction is worthy of deep consideration. Therefore, urban design practice needs to advocate for an in-depth
understanding of the local context and the formation process of spatial characteristics. It should organically combine
regional culture, topography, historical choices, traditional construction, and other factors, in order to realize urban
spatial shaping that inherits universal qualities while also incorporating personalized innovation. This paper, using the
conceptual urban design scheme of Changchun Yongchun New Town as an example, briefly analyzes the importance of
innovation in urban design methods oriented towards spatial paradigms.
