Abstract:This article takes Taiyuan Street in Shenyang as the core case to explore how urban design can stimulate the potential
of central business districts and promote urban renaissance. The Taiyuan Street area not only carries the historical
memory of Shenyang, but is also an important component of the Northeast Asia consumption hub and the vitality center
of the Shenyang modern metropolitan area. The regional urban renaissance plan aims to comprehensively enhance the
development level of Taiyuan Street area through 5 major systems: industrial economy, social vitality, cultural heritage,
green ecology, and technological innovation. The spatial structure of the “Golden Triangle” is constructed in the core
area of Taiyuan Street, covering “1 hub & 2 magnetic poles”, and key regeneration units are defined around “3 streets,
2 cores & multiple courtyards”. A series of urban design strategies are developed to tap regional potential and stimulate
flagship energy in the region. The future urban renaissance action in the region will be implemented to ensure the
orderly implementation of flagship projects for urban renaissance and ultimately achieve comprehensive renaissance of
the region. This study provides reference significance for the regeneration of other urban central areas.
