Abstract：With the acceleration of urbanization in China, urban renewal has become an important way to promote highquality
and sustainable development of cities, and old urban areas are difficult and key areas for urban renewal.
With the memory of the city, they carry the weight of history and cultural heritage and perform important urban
functions. However, they also face prominent problems such as obvious shortcomings in public services, outdated
infrastructure, and poor quality of living environment. It is urgent to explore adaptive urban renewal paths. This
article takes the practice of urban renewal in the old urban area of Tiexi District, Shenyang as an example. Based
on the development process of urban renewal in Tiexi, taking the treatment of “urban diseases” as the starting
point and the urban revitalization and development of Tiexi as the vision, the article carries out research and
exploration related to old urban area renewal, summarizes and extracts methods and paths of urban renewal, in
order to provide reference for similar urban renewal.
