Accumulation and Symbiosis: Identification of Heritage Value in
Residential Historical Blocks
Taking the Huifang Area of Mingcheng District in Xi’an as an Example
Abstract：This paper focuses on the relationships between “authenticity” and “completeness” and between “grandeur” and
“daily life”, analyzes the problems in identifying the heritage value of residential historical blocks, and combines
the theoretical development of built heritage and historical blocks to analyze the current situation of Huifang area in
Mingcheng District, Xi’an. It identifies the overall characteristics of the built heritage in Huifang area and explores the
value attributes of Huifang area in terms of historical site lineage and cultural gene symbiosis.
