Abstract：In the context of current stock development, exploring how Chinese campuses, characterized by their closed nature,
can mutually promote with cities has become an important topic. This study aims to investigate the impact of campus
openness modes on the vitality of the campus and its adjacent urban areas. Four universities were selected as research
subjects and divided into two groups based on their urban location for comparison. Utilizing POI data, population
activity heat maps, and space syntax models, the research aims to unravel the mechanisms of influence between
different openness modes and vitality within similar external environments. The study finds a positive correlation
between the degree of openness of the campus and the indicators constituting the vitality of both the campus and the
city. This phenomenon is particularly evident in the internal vitality of the campus, its surrounding tertiary industry, and
urban traffic safety. Based on this analysis, the study aims to provide reference value for campus renewal work.
