An Introduction to the Public Space in the Kumbh Mela Nagri, India

Abstract:Kumbh Mela is a very important traditional Hindu festival, held every twelve years in Allahabad, a holy place in India. In order to hold this grand festival celebration, a huge city with millions of population is temporarily built at the confluence of the Ganges and Yamuna rivers. This paper introduces the basic situation of the temporary city, and briefly analyzes the urban design characteristics of the three important types of public space: the city streets, riverside square and pontoon bridges.
