Urban Design
A Preliminary Exploration of Teaching Reform of the “Introduction to Urban Design” Course under the Concept of People’s City
Jing Xia, Wei Xuan
Abstract:Hefei University of Technology has launched the teaching reform of “Introduction to Urban Design” based on the concept that cities should be built by the people and for the people after thoroughly learning and understanding this concept. The teaching reform targets the three major teaching objectives of “knowledge-capability-quality” and adheres to the teaching concept of “design-technology-art-governance”. It innovatively integrates the teaching reform paths of course ideology and politics, emphasizes the process of teaching, and creates a living simulation field to guide students to think about how to carry out social service based on their professional characteristics under the concept of people’s city construction. Finally, this paper presents four student assignments on spatial equity for disadvantaged groups as examples of several student-selected projects taught in the course.
