Exploration of Innovative Practices in Urban Design Teaching in the Context
of Urban Renewal

Abstract:As an integral component of urban and rural planning, urban design is a crucial link in supporting the high-quality
development of land space. In the context of urban renewal, cultivating planning and design talents with the ability
to solve complex urban problems has become a new talent demand orientation. This paper first identifies five core
characteristics required for innovative urban design talent in the new era; Subsequently, based on the teaching reform
practice of the fourth-year urban design course at the Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture, the
implementation path and effectiveness of urban design teaching are systematically expounded around the aspects of
teaching goal positioning, curriculum system construction, teaching organization and teaching method innovation,
aiming to provide practical examples for industry characteristic universities to explore the urban design talent training
model in the new era.
